Creative Steps for Individuals Fund

The aim of this fund is to support individual artists and organisations who have experienced barriers to accessing our funding. Creative Steps aims to address this by supporting artists and organisations throughout their journey, helping them with their professional, business and organisational development.

We believe it is crucial to support these individuals and organisations because it is a priority for us to increase the diversity of work being created, funded and celebrated in Wales.

We want to make sure that you have sufficient time to complete your application, including any support/mentoring that’s required. Please note that if you have not already spoken to a Development Officer and discussed a draft proposal with them, we will not be able to release a link to an application form less than 2 weeks before a published deadline. Thank you.Who can apply?

Creative Steps for Individuals is open to individual artists and creatives who identify as being ethnically and culturally diverse, Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent. This scheme focuses on these particular groups because research, both internally and externally, tells us that we are not engaging enough with individuals from these backgrounds. It also tells us that individuals from these backgrounds and lived experiences have not been able to access our funding easily and have faced barriers and/or discrimination.

Please see the next drop down for our full definitions.

We advise that you read the eligibility criteria below to find out if you’re eligible to apply for this fund.

Take a look at our eligibility criteria for individuals.

Our criteria for individuals states that you must have experience as an artist or creative professional. You may have had breaks, and your artistry does not have to be your main source of income, but you must have demonstrable artistic or creative experience.

Our criteria for individuals states that you must have some experience of making and sharing work with others (a performance or exhibition for example). For those that do not have this experience, we may still be able to support you as long as you submit a portfolio to us with your application. We may decide to fund you based on your artistic potential.

You must clearly articulate the barriers you’ve had in your journey and how the Creative Steps funding can help remove those barriers. We recognise that it can be difficult to talk about negative or harmful experiences so we will do our best to ensure that applicants are able to share their experiences in a safe environment.

Creative Grant – The White Pube

The White Pube Creatives Grant is a one-off £500 grant to be given out to a different working class creative practitioner based in the UK once every month. This grant has been set up to support creatives of all ages who are early in their careers and would benefit from this no-strings attached financial support to help them in whatever they like – be that money to cover time to make, or money to fund materials, equipment, research, subscriptions, development, travel, or even rent and bills. The grant is open to anybody who makes stuff. Art, writing, performance, sound, music, craft, comedy, games, whatever you want to throw at us.

Anybody can put themselves forward by emailing funding@thewhitepube.com. Give us a brief introduction to yourself, contact information and an example of your work. There is no deadline as this is a monthly rolling grant, and the grant does not expect any outcomes or reporting. If you are not awarded the grant one month, your submission is still taken into consideration for future months so there is no need to re-submit. The work of each recipient is shared on The White Pube homepage, plus you can find more information about previous recipients below.

Early Career Promoter Fund – PRS Foundation

The Early Career Promoter Fund is open again for applications after a successful first year of the programme. For the latest advice see the ‘How to Make a Strong Application’ webinar with Grants & Programmes Manager Ben Price on the PRS YouTube channel here.

Early Career Promoter Fund recognises the vital role independent promoters play in supporting the talent pipeline across England, and offers grant funding and capacity building support, with the aim of bolstering the local, regional and national ecosystems.

Grants of up to £3,500 will be available to support a range of activity, including:

  • The booking, programming and promotion of gigs, concerts, club nights, showcases, tours and other performances
  • Costs associated with those activities (including venue hire, production, artist and/or DJ fees, crew fees, administration and other related costs)
  • Capacity building (including mentoring, coaching, shadowing, workshops, masterclasses, and other skill building and networking opportunities)
  • Other expenditure which helps grantees to programme a diverse range of artists, develop new audiences and build their skills

The fund aims to help emerging promoters to do what they do best – book and promote shows to develop scenes, support artists and DJs and to reach and engage audiences locally, regionally, and nationally, and build sustainable careers in the grassroots music sector. Those receiving support will be able to step up to book and promote talent at a scale beyond their current level, and build their capacity, skills and networks.

Managed by PRS Foundation and supported by Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Early Career Promoter Fund also helps to address under representation, ensuring support reaches a diverse range of promoters, and proactively encourages grantees to support a diverse range of artists and music genres nationwide.
