MIC’s Podcast Club for Global Podcasts

“Helpful and supportive regular online and in-person get-togethers for podcasters from everywhere!

We’re a community of global podcasters who help each other make brilliant podcasts.

We all make podcasts as producers, editors or presenters.

Each Podcast Club meetup is a real-life podcaster FAQ asked and answered by the awesome MIC podcaster community who come from across the world.

(yep it says Manchester, that’s where we’re based – it won’t let us put EVERYWHERE!)

Our monthly events are online, and we (aim to!) host quarterly in-person meetups too, what we like to call our ‘socials’.

We also have a special podcaster guest most months to give their expert take on a chosen podcasty subject. To date, we’ve had talks from chart-topping and award-winning podcasters about shortform podcasting, rating and reviews and remote recording.

Our guests have included Arielle Nissenblatt, podcasting legend, Olly Mann, Brown Girls Do It Too podcast, Obsessed with Line of Duty podcast producers, BBC Sounds Commissioner Louise Kattenhorn, Dan Maudsley (BBC: Paradise), The VO Social podcast, Clare Freeman (ASFB Productions: Slimming World Podcast…), Kate Cocker (The Presenter Coach: Everyday Positivity), Alex Bennett (Lower Street Media, Art of Podcast), Guy Kilty (DipDap productions, BBC 5Live: The Price of Football), Sam Walker (BBC, Desert Diaries, Northern Power Women), Emma Goswell (Gaydio, Coming Out Stories), Mark Asquith (Captivate, Rebel Base Media), Amy Woods (Content x10), Ant McGinley (XS Manchester, On The Left Side).”

UK Audio Network

The UK Audio Network (UKAN) is the UK’s largest community of audio producers, commissioners and creators, distributing work opportunities via a shared email list. Their aim is to link commissioners to talent and give all those working in audio an equal chance to pitch for work.

GMCA Inspire Fund

Funding rounds are spaced throughout the year – link here

The GMCA Inspire Fund is providing grants of £500 – £2,000 for freelance and independent artists, and small organisations across Greater Manchester. 

You may be a musician who would benefit from a new instrument, a small group who needs funds to expand your wardrobe or replace costumes, or a freelance artist who wishes to upskill via a training course.

The GMCA Culture Fund: Inspire is designed to support Greater Manchester-based:

  • Freelance artists.
  • Independent creatives, artists, musicians, and performers.
  • Small creative arts organisations (less than £100k turnover).

Guidance 

Decisions are expected within 6 weeks of the closing date you have applied for.

The Network was started in January 2022 by Sophie Perry because no such space existed in the industry.

LGBTQ+ journalists have always existed and this space celebrates their work, encourages them and aims to inspire a new generation.

Black Artists Grant – Creative Debuts

The Black Artists Grant (BAG) offered by Creative Debuts as a no-strings attached financial support to help black artists. They can spend the grant on whatever they want – be that make new work, buy equipment or materials, travel, research, visit exhibitions or conferences, or to even just cover some life expenses.

This grant has been set up because Black artists are systematically under-supported by the art world; by institutions, curators, the artist-led scene, major and minor funding bodies, the market, art schools, and by audiences too.

Creative Debuts recognises that a full institutional overhaul and dismantling of racist structures is required to transform the industry permanently, but they hope in a small way that this grant will help enable recipients to continue their artistic practice when the odds are so stacked against them.

20 grants per round will be awarded.
